Body Types

Curvy/Hourglass:

- Ample Tummy

choose styles with:

  • Mid to slightly high-rises. A lower rise can bisect the stomach.
  • Zipper flys rather than button flys.

  • Pleating

- Hips

choose styles with:

  • A bootcut or slight flare to balance out your figure.
  • A contoured waistband or mid-rise.
  • A flat-front seen in many trousers in a darker rinse.
  • Slit pockets.

choose styles with:

  • Front patch pockets or cargo styles and look for jeans with slit pockets.
  • Light stitching or detail on and around the hip.
  • Pegged, stovepipe, or tapered legs. They will make your hips look bigger.
  • Low-rises or high rises.

- Heavy Thighs

choose styles with:

  • Leg openings such as bootcuts and trousers that skim but doesn’t hug your leg.

- Rear

  • Pockets that are proportionally sized and centered.

  • Slimming effects such as trousers.
  • Stretch (2% lycra). Thse will hug your curves without feeling too tight.

Slender

  • Contoured waistbands to give illusion of more curves.
  • Stitching and detail on hips, thighs. and rear.
  • Front patch pockets and cargo styles.
  • Low-rises and some stretch.
  • Whiskering and fading on hips, thighs, and rear.
  • Back flap pockets

  • A lot of stretch that may emphasize a straight silhouette.
  • A leg that is too loose.

Plus-sized

choose styles with:

  • A bootcut or slight flare for balance.
  • A bit of stretch for comfort.
  • Darker rinses.
  • Back pockets that are large and closely-spaced.
  • Back pockets that are sewn flat.
  • Higher waistlines.

  • Lighter denim rinses.
  • Whiskering or fading.
  • Without rear pockets.
  • Too much stretch.

Tall

choose styles with:

  • Straighter leg styles that will show off long legs
  • Lower rises if you wish to emphasize a flat tummy and slim hips as well.

  • Too low of a rise if your proportions present a longer torso rather than longer legs.

Petite

choose styles with:

  • Slimmer fits in darker rinses to make your legs look longer and leaner.
  • Trouser legs.
  • Pinstripes or vertical seams.
  • A slightly longer inseam so that the hem almost touches the floor
