Denim Do's and Don'ts
Whether you choose to shop with Jean-O-Type, or not, we do care about your denim happiness. Here are some denim do’s and don’ts to shop by:
look for a waist that button or snaps easily. You don’t want to put yourself at risk for creating a muffin-top.
reveal your butt cleavage! If you find your rear exposed in your low-rise jeans, you may need to go up a size or choose a pair with a contoured waist (higher cut in the back).
pick the right pockets. They should sit on the roundest part of your rear for maximum flattery. Smaller pockets can make you rear look larger; larger pockets can make your rear look smaller to nonexistent.
- If you’re a size 2-6, choose jeans with pockets that are about: 5.5" wide x 5.75" high
- If you’re a size 8+, choose jeans with pockets that are about 6.5" wide x 6.75" high
(The Jean-O-Type Finder will do this for you)
buy jeans with pleats... unless you’re trying to buy "mom jeans."
go for darker denim without any whiskering or fading if you want to look thinner. Worn areas and whiskering will highlight your figure wherever they are.
be afraid to invest in your jeans! Usually the higher the price, the better the quality. The fabric may be a tighter weave, which makes it softer, and the more stitches on the seams, the higher the price. Good jeans age gracefully and have a longer lifespan than their cheaper counterparts. You may not feel comfortable splurging on a trendy pair, but consider doing so for your basic multi-purpose pair.
